How can we easily understand Deconstruction?!

March 12, 2016

Have you ever seen the scaffolding that goes up during the construction of a building? The frame shows what the building will look like, but that's not the only part. Shift your focus a little, and you'll see the spaces between the frame's 'bones.'The Whole and Holes of ScaffoldingIt's the 'whole' of the metal itself and the 'holes' in between that make up the future building's shape. Similarly, deconstruction looks at what makes a text whole and what holes are in between its pieces, in other words, what's said and what's left unsaid.Think of a tree. We like to think a tree is an easily defined object. But think of defining the word 'tree' to aliens who had very little knowledge on objects on Earth. How would you describe it? The words 'leaves,' 'branches,' and 'roots' mean nothing to them.It would be easier to point to other objects and describe the differences between them and a tree. In other words, it's much easier to describe something by saying what it's not.

Who is the proponents?!

Jacques Derrida (1930-2004) was the founder of “deconstruction,” a way of criticizing not only both literary and philosophical texts but also political institutions. Although Derrida at times expressed regret concerning the fate of the word “deconstruction,” its popularity indicates the wide-ranging influence of his thought, in philosophy, in literary criticism and theory, in art and, in particular, architectural theory, and in political theory. Indeed, Derrida's fame nearly reached the status of a media star, with hundreds of people filling auditoriums to hear him speak, with films and televisions programs devoted to him, with countless books and articles devoted to his thinking. Beside critique, Derridean deconstruction consists in an attempt to re-conceive the difference that divides self-reflection (or self-consciousness). But even more than the re-conception of difference, and perhaps more importantly, deconstruction works towards preventing the worst violence. It attempts to render justice. Indeed, deconstruction is relentless in this pursuit since justice is impossible to achieve.

How to deconstruct a text?!

March 13, 2016

For deconstructing a text, You Have To:

Focuses on contradictions in a text

Unravels binaries – shows they are unstable

Explores unintended meanings in metaphors

Explores instabilities in language

What?! Easier?!

There are the steps you can consider for constructing a text.

1.After reading a text first time, write down a brief summary which everyone can generally accept.

2.Identify binaries from the text

3.Identify metaphors both intended and unintended meanings

4.Find out any words that might have two meanings

5.Find out contradictions which does not make sense

6.Analyze the text based on what you have found during following the steps
